Freddie Mercury and Queen
By Da Riley of My Modern Ad/Info
What a talented musician! On Sept. 4th in 1946 a boy was born... his name Farrokh Bulsara. At the age of eight, his parents sent him to St Peter’s English boarding school in Panchgani, about fifty miles outside of Bombay. It was here that his friends began to call him Freddie. While at St. Peters, he was quite an athlete. He enjoyed cricket and long-distance running, hockey, sprint and boxing. When he was 10, he became the schools table tennis champion. He was not only a good sportsman, but very artistic. It was his passion. At the age of twelve he was awarded the school trophy as Junior All-rounder, and preferred music aove all other... including his school work. Freddie's musical talents caught the attention of the principal headmaster at St Peter’s so he wrote to Freddie's parents suggesting that his musical talents should be structured properly and further developed. Once approved, Freddie began piano lessons, sang in the schools choir, and was a member of the schools theatrical productions. Freddie loved his piano lessons the most and he applied himself with determination and skill. After finishing school, Freddie lead the life of a man on a mission. He worked odd jobs to earn an income, played with and fronted several bands, and earned a degree in Graphic Art and Design from Ealing College. In late 1969 after his graduation, and with pals from college is when the makings of Queen started to take shape. In April 1970, Queen was officially born, and Freddie changed his last name to Mercury. The next 20 years of music lovers would watch this showman grow to be a legend in rock n roll. Freddie's unique charisma and character led the band, along with his strong voice and musical talents. They would be known for such international hits “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Killer Queen”, “Somebody to Love”, “Don’t Stop Me Now”, “We Are the Champions” and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”, and many, many, more. One of my personal and all time favorites is when he hooked up with Spanish opera star Montserrat Caballe. The album "Barcelona" shows the true musicianship of Freddie and the range of his talents. http://www.mymodernad.info/world%20of%20music/Queen/?p=211 Freddie Mercury died of bronchopneumonia induced by HIV (AIDS) on November 24, 1991, only one day after publicly acknowledging he had the disease. He left behind him a trail of brilliant musical composure's that will live on for many decades to come. Freddie was forever enshrined into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001... DA
